Photo of the Week - Cerro Alto Mountain

September 06, 2016

Cerro Alto MountainCerro Alto MountainThe highest point in the Hueco Mountains as seen at sunset during a stormy evening.

Cerro Alto is the highest mountain in the Hueco Mountains east of El Paso. The mountain's dominance over the range it belongs to is instantly obvious from any spot on the east side of town. In the photo above the setting sun lit the mountain with dramatic warm light as a storm brewed above.

West Texas ViewWest Texas ViewView from the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas

If you drive about a hundred miles east of El Paso you will find yourself surrounded by a very diverse landscape. The first thing you will pass is the salt flat, then you will climb until you reach the entrance to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The views in this area are amazing. The photo above was taken near the entrance to the park, looking south. It is part of my new collection of photos of West Texas. From El Capitan to Cerro Alto, I think you'll enjoy these new photos.

Photo of the Week - Transmountain Road

August 09, 2016

Transmountain RoadTransmountain RoadTransmountain Road winds through the Franklin Mountains in Northeast El Paso.

There is just something appealing about how this road cuts through the rugged landscape of northern El Paso. Maybe it's the contrast between the orderly man made lines and curves with the natural landscape. In this specific shot, the mountain landscape was unusually green after a wetter-than-typical rainy season.
