The Rio Grande in El Paso, TexasThe Rio GrandeThe Rio Grande flows through the upper valley on a partly cloudy day.

The Rio Grande river flows through the Upper Valley before it turns east on its way toward the U.S./Mexico border. The river frequently has been completely dry in recent years. A full river with green banks is a rare and welcome sight in the dry El Paso desert.

Photo of the Week - Daytime Long Exposure of Castner Range

Castner Range Under a Partly Cloudy SkyCastner Range Under a Partly Cloudy SkyLong exposure photo of Castner Range in Northeast El Paso. This week's photo shows Castner Range in northeast El Paso under a partly cloudy sky. To add an extra bit of drama to this photo I used a 10-stop neutral density filter that allowed me to extend the exposure time to over 3 minutes. This caused the camera to capture the movement of the clouds and resulted in the effect seen above.

Old MesillaOld MesillaHistoric town plaza of Old Mesilla, New Mexico.

Over the past few years I've received several requests for photos of El Paso's neighbor to the north, Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico. Whenever I find myself in the region I take the opportunity to photograph the interesting and unique places. The photo above shows the town plaza in Old Mesilla, New Mexico. From the mountains of Ruidoso to the Pecan Farms on Highway 28, you can find high quality photos in my new gallery covering Southern New Mexico.

Photo of the Week - Downtown Curves and Lines

Downtown El Paso BuildingsDowntown El Paso BuildingsView of the Abraham Chavez Theatre, the Camino Real Hotel, and the Plaza Hotel in downtown El Paso, Texas. The view above is one I see almost every day as I walk to my car. The contrast between the curves of the Abraham Chavez Theatre and the straight lines of the Plaza Hotel and Camino Real Hotel always catch my eye.
